Blood mobile comes to London

Update: The bloodmobile project has been cancelled due the coronavirus pandemic.
All donors with booked appointments on the bloodmobile in April will be contacted shortly.
If you’re out and about in London over the next few months, you might see something unusual – a blood mobile.
The blood mobile is a pilot to try and find more black blood donors.
We’ll be bringing it to certain parts of London on a trial basis.
More and more black people are saving lives by donating blood but there is still a shortage. We need 40,000 black donors over the next three years.
People from similar ethnic backgrounds are more likely to have matching blood. But there are not enough black donors and some black hospital patients don’t always get the best-matched blood.
The blood mobile will be visiting areas with a high black population until May 2020 to help recruit more black donors.
