Help Save Lives this bank holiday
NHS Blood and Transplant is urging people to make appointments to donate blood ahead of August Bank Holiday weekend (24 - 26 August 2019).
People’s social lives are often busier at this time of year meaning less bookings are made to donate or people forget about their appointment.
It’s important blood is collected all year round to maintain healthy levels as blood donations cannot be stockpiled. Each donation can save the lives of up to three people, and it’s crucial NHS Blood and Transplant collects enough blood to help critically ill people.
Jon Latham, Assistant Director of Donor Relationship Services at NHS Blood and Transplant, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to all our loyal donors who take time out of their busy schedules at this time of year, to help save and improve lives.
“Please make the time to come along to donate at your nearest donor centre, donating blood is so quick and easy the whole appointment will take less than an hour.
“If you have an appointment booked but can no longer make it, please remember to cancel it so we can reallocate the slot to someone else.”
