Some blood donors have asked if it's possible to support Ukraine through blood donation.

Can I donate blood which can then be sent to Ukraine?

This is not something the Ukrainian authorities has requested. The country has its own blood donation system and is relying on its citizens – like we do here – to keep donating right now.

Can blood types that are in low demand in the UK be donated for the people of Ukraine?

We still need to collect blood types that are in higher demand and maintain the right mix of blood stocks so all our appointments are carefully planned weeks in advance to help ensure we can do this.

Can supplies be provided instead of blood?

Any resources – including donor chairs, supplies and staff – that are redirected elsewhere would need to be managed in a controlled way and done with support from the Government. We are in close contact with the UK Government and are ready to help in any way we can.

How can I help?

There are international healthcare aid organisations like the Médecins Sans Frontières and the British Red Cross who are often at the front of the international response to humanitarian needs and who may need donations of all kinds right now.

Blood donors are amazing, and we really do appreciate your offers to go above and beyond.

We continue to welcome eligible donors to register and book an appointment to donate at one of our 23 permanent donor centres or mobile sessions across England.
