Why men make good blood donors
Iron levels and the absence of some antibodies help make men good donors
NHS Blood and Transplant is running a New Year campaign for more men to donate start donating blood.
We only use men’s blood for certain rare and unusual products and transfusions.
We’ll be highlighting interesting case studies where men’s blood was crucial, and the latest statistics around male donors.
Our adverts will be running through the month but we’ll be launching the appeal to the media on January 10th.
We’ll be focusing on certain parts of the country where we have more capacity for new donors, primarily large towns and cities, especially those with one of our 23 donor centres.
Ordinary men become extraordinary life-savers when they donate – we hope more men will donate for the first time in 2020.
