Baking for Bloodwise
If you like home-made cakes, you’re in for a treat. This September we are baking for Bloodwise, our charity partner, in support of Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
Staff will be rolling up their sleeves to bake delicious cakes for donors to buy at sessions and donor centres between 18th – 24th September.
Bloodwise is the UK’s specialist blood cancer charity. It funds world-class research and offers expert information and support to anyone affected by leukaemia, myeloma and other blood cancer-related disorders.
We partnered with Bloodwise back in March 2016, and have raised just over £14,000 for it over the past 12 months. The decision to work alongside this charity made sense, as blood transfusions play an essential part in reducing the symptoms and side effects of the treatments that blood cancer patients receive.
Increase knowledge
Blood cancer is the third biggest cancer killer in the UK, claiming more lives each year than breast or prostate cancer. One person is diagnosed with blood cancer every 14 minutes: 38,000 each year. Currently, there are 230,000 people in the UK living with blood cancer.
Only 4% of people know that blood cancer is one of the biggest cancer killers, and Bloodwise hopes to increase knowledge and understanding of the disease with Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
If you have an appointment to give blood in the week commencing 18th September, please do try some of our home-made treats. All donations are voluntary (monetary and blood!) and are gratefully received. You’re a life-saver. Treat yourself to something sweet!
