Snow problem!
Weather takes a toll on donations
The Great British weather can be unpredictable to say the least.
If it’s not a Beast from the East, it’s a heatwave in February. But it’s heavy snow and icy weather that are most disruptive when it comes to blood donation. Last year, as Siberian winds caused chaos throughout the country, many donation sessions had to be cancelled and almost 7,000 units of blood were missed as a result.
Earlier this year, many parts of the country again experienced snow and sleet, making it difficult for both donors and staff to get to sessions. Some of those people who did make it found themselves stranded afterwards and we had to arrange overnight accommodation for them in nearby hotels.
To those of you who did battle through the elements to help save lives, thank you, we are truly grateful. To those of you who had your appointments cancelled, we apologise and hope that you’ll re-book with us again soon. Thank you.
