Abrar
Abrar joined the NHS Stem Cell Donor Registry at a blood donation appointment.
Shortly after he got the call to say he was the unique match for someone in need of a stem cell transplant.
Abrar said the decision to donate stem cells was easy.
“My personal philosophy is to try and help wherever I can, whether that may be donating blood or donating stem cells or volunteering at the local homeless shelter.
“It’s wherever you can and whatever you can do in your capacity to help people out in need.”
He got a call about nine months after registering to say he could be a perfect match for a patient in need of a stem cell transplant.
Abrar was supported through the donation process and was accompanied by his mum throughout.
“It’s a very easy and comfortable. It takes a few hours and before you know it, it’s over.
“You know, you're donating stem cells, but really and truly, it's just as simple as donating blood.
It could be a matter of life and death for someone and you could end up potentially saving someone's life.”
